Sweet Summer Love in VT

The 2021 wedding season is truly one that will go down in history. Not only have there been lots of changes in how vendors & businesses operate due to the pandemic, but it has been an exceptionally busy season. We’re not complaining; it’s truly been a blessing to be a small part of so many love stories. But, it did cause us to fall behind in sharing some of the magic behind the scenes, so here’s our first feature from this season.

Jocelyn + Kevin met working together at a quaint bed & breakfast in rural VT. Since then, they’ve grown to build a life together in Burlington, VT, with their sweet cat, Valentine. They tied the knot at the Alerin Barn in St. Johnsbury, with a dream team of vendors. The catering was exquisitely prepared & served, the venue provided an intimate & refreshing setting, and the perfect weather was the cherry on top.

I was thrilled when they brought us on board to handle the design of her event, primarily her centerpieces & tying together some final details. We talked at length about her the atmosphere & what tone we wanted to set. How did we want guests to feel? How could we create a sense of community in a space that brought together people from many different circles? And to tie it off, how would we tell their story?

Designing events, particularly weddings, is an intimate process; full of brainstorming, looking for inspiration in every direction (to narrow down to the right one), and considering every element & how it contributes to the space. After many conversations, we determined our main words of inspiration:

Europe: to commemorate some of Jocelyn & Kevin’s favorite travels together, which we lightly paid tribute to in the ornate textured glassware.

Romantic: because a wedding isn’t complete without romance! The warm glow of candles is a sure fire way to add to that, especially with the added dimension of mixed heights.

Nature: to celebrate their home state of VT, and their love for the outdoors. The Alerin Barn contributed to this all on its own, with its quint, beautiful farmhouse reception space, surrounded by gardens & sunshine.

Cozy: to set an environment that is comforting to guests, promotes socialization, and invites happiness. The abundance of vases, added dimension in heights, and mix of flames & florals was the perfect team.

Eco-friendly: It was a priority to use materials that were sustainable & could be used again. With the mix of glassware, environmentally conscious fabrics, and locally-sourced blooms, we did just that.

What do you think? Did we check off all their boxes?
